Hunting packages in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia

Kaiwhai Safaris has outfitted hunters in southern Africa since 1999. Pick a package below and we will quote it, or tell us what you want to hunt and we will build the safari around it. Either way a real person answers, and the first conversation costs nothing.

How the money works

Two ways to pay for a safari

We will quote you either way. But we will tell you which one we think is better for you, and here it is in advance.

A fixed package price

One price covering your days, your professional hunter, the camp, and the trophy fees for the animals named in the package. You know the total before you fly.

Best when you are budgeting tightly, or booking for a group who all want the same thing.

The catch you pay for the animals whether you take them or not.

What we recommend

Daily rate plus trophy fees

A daily rate covers the guiding, the camp and the vehicle. You then pay a trophy fee only for the animals you actually take. Most of our returning hunters book this way.

Best when you want to choose species in the field, hunt at your own pace, or chase something specific.

Why we lean this way no animal is ever guaranteed. We are very confident we will find what you came for — but confident is not the same as guaranteed, and à la carte means you only ever pay for what you actually take.

What happens about a price

Tell us the species, the dates and how many are coming, and we send a written quote — usually within 24 hours. Itemised, in US dollars, for the 2027 season, with nothing hidden at the bottom.

A small deposit confirms your dates.

What happens next

How booking actually works

Most hunters book 6 to 12 months ahead, and the season runs March to October.

You tell us what you want

Species, rough dates, who is coming. A phone call is usually the fastest way, and we are happy to start there.

We send a written quote

Usually within 24 hours, itemised and in US dollars. Change it as many times as you like until it is the safari you actually want.

A small deposit holds your dates

Then we send your confirmation and, if you are bringing your own rifle, your firearm invitation letter.

We meet you at the airport

Forms go in 30 to 60 days before you fly. The balance is settled at the end of the safari.

Questions US hunters ask us

How far ahead should I book?

Six to twelve months, and longer for peak season or a limited-permit species. The season runs March to October, so 2027 dates are being taken now.

Can I bring my own rifle?

Yes, and most hunters do. We send you a firearm invitation letter once your deposit is in, and we help with the permit paperwork. If you would rather not travel with one, rifle hire is available — it is not included in the package, and ammunition is charged separately.

Can my wife or children come if they do not hunt?

Yes, and a lot of families do. Non-hunters join game drives, photographic safaris, cultural tours and shopping trips, and there is a nanny service for younger children.

What does it cost?

That depends on the species, the days and how many are hunting. Tell us those three things and you get a written, itemised quote, usually within 24 hours. We quote on request rather than publishing rates, because no two safaris here are the same.

Am I guaranteed to get the animal I came for?

No, and nobody honest will tell you otherwise. We are very confident we will find what you came for — our concessions and our professional hunters are the reason hunters come back — but an animal is never guaranteed. That is why we usually recommend paying a daily rate plus trophy fees, so you only pay for what you actually take.

Do you hunt ethically?

Fair chase, every time. Our code of hunting ethics is published in full, and our professional hunters teach it to first-time and younger hunters as part of the safari.
