The lodge sits among camel

thorn at the foot of the dunes, built from stone and thatch in a style that belongs to this landscape rather than fighting it. Rooms are en-suite and generously sized, each opening onto a view that runs uninterrupted to the horizon. There is a pool for the heat of the day and a fireplace for the surprising cold of a desert night. Meals lean on Kalahari lamb and game from the reserve, served long and unhurried. Hunting Adventures of a Lifetime

Gemsbok are the signature animal here — Kalahari bulls carry length that is hard to match anywhere else, and hunting them across open dune country is as honest as African hunting gets. Springbok run in real numbers, including all four colour variants. Kudu, eland, red hartebeest, blue and black wildebeest, steenbok and duiker round out the plains game, with sable, roan and nyala also on the reserve. Dangerous game is available by arrangement.
